http://james.psych.umn.edu/~grecc/dysken.htm During FY03, Dr. Dysken conducted a second planning meeting to develop a VA cooperative study examining the efficacy of high dose alpha-tocopherol in the treatment of functional decline in outpatients with Alzheimer’s disease already on donepezil. A total of 35 site PIs were identified throughout the VA who are interested in conducting the study at their VA facilities. In addition, Dr. Dysken developed a companion DNA banking substudy with Jerry Schellenberg, Ph.D., who is the Associate Director for Research in the Seattle GRECC. Presentation of the study to the Cooperative Studies Evaluation Committee is scheduled for sometime early in FY04. Dr. Dysken continues as a co-investigator on an NIA funded grant on “Clinical Assessment in Neuropsychiatric Image Databases” with Jose Pardo, M.D. (PI) and Michael Kuskowski, Ph.D. He participated with Joe Hanlon, PharmD, Chair, and investigators at Duke University, to explore antioxidant use in the Duke EPESE data and its relationship to incident dementia.
